Position:  CHIEF COMMUNICATOR
Salary $43,992 Annually
Department:  Public Safety/Animal Care and Control
Hours:  40 Variable hours/week; may include evenings, weekends and holidays; will be required to work during emergencies.

Supervises the Communications section at Animal Care and Control. Trains, develops, assigns and coordinates the work of subordinates engaged in accurate/timely dispatching of vehicles, operators, animal control officers and support staff over radio/telephone communication systems. Deals with sensitive issues such as euthanasia, animal cruelty, animal-to-human bites and volatile telephone calls/customers. Dispatches and receives complex information with mobile field units; updates computer records through radio transmissions; prepares written complaint forms and performs related data entry. Work is performed under limited supervision and is reviewed for efficiency and conformance with policies/regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of three (3) years of experience dispatching for a kennel, animal shelter, law enforcement/similar agency, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE:
Supervising five (5) or more telephone/radio/dispatch communications staff (must specify on application); working in law enforcement/emergency dispatch; in communications customer service/a call center (must specify on application); issuing animal-related civil infractions/violation notices; using Chameleon/other animal tracking software (must specify on application).
