The Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) Department seeks a highly skilled leader who will be responsible for the efficient operation of the fleet of PBCFR apparatus/vehicles, self-contained breathing apparatus and two-way communication equipment. Will direct the personnel and resources of support services fleet section, which consists of 24 professional, technical and support staff within the Division. Ensures fleet needs are met with the policies and Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs) of the Department. Key duties include: Oversees the development, execution and administration of the department fleet maintenance program; monitors compliance; issues counseling forms/disciplinary actions; handles employee complaints and grievances; recommends the hiring, termination and promotion of staff; administers all contracts/purchase orders for outsourced services; assumes the position of Logistics Deputy Chief during natural or man-made disasters or hurricanes; develops and oversees the administration of a preventative maintenance program; identifies effective staff training programs to be administered both internally, and from third parties for technical requirements and required certifications; reviews and approves specifications related to contracts used in the fleet maintenance industry including commodities, vehicles and equipment; reviews, analyzes and evaluates financial implications and risk associated with terms and conditions of fleet contracts and purchase orders. The PBCFR Fleet Division maintains a fleet of 426 vehicles, including 76 Engines and 85 rescue units. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Support Services.


Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Business/Public Administration; minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a fleet maintenance environment with three (3) years of progressive supervisory and managerial experience. Equivalencies: Unrelated Associate's Degree and 10 years of related experience with three (3) years of progressive supervisory and managerial experience; high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certification and 12 years of related experience with three (3) years of progressive supervisory and managerial experience.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE IN:  Local government fleet management; fire-rescue vehicle/apparatus equipment maintenance. Also desirable: Related Bachelor's degree; Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM).
