Palm Beach County is seeking a Senior Professional Engineer to manage, design, permit, implement and coordinate contracts associated with capital construction projects for beach nourishment, inlet management, dune restoration, shore protection and wetland restoration; coordinate with other governmental entities, consultants and contractors; and provide engineering support to the petroleum contamination cleanup and natural resources stewardship programs. This supervisory position manages a team consisting of two professional engineers and three technical staff.

Palm Beach County is one of the fastest growing counties in Florida and the nation. The Department of Environmental Resources Management employs 120 environmental and engineering professionals dedicated to quality shore protection, environmental protection and restoration.

Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida or Bachelor's Degree in Coastal/Ocean/Environmental/Civil Engineering or closely related field; minimum of five (5) years of experience in professional environmental resources engineering including one (1) year of experience in the supervisory aspects of the work. Equivalency: Master's Degree in Coastal/Ocean/Environmental/Civil Engineering and four (4) years of related experience including one (1) year of experience in the supervisory aspects of the work.


Necessary Special Requirement: Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or the ability to obtain licensure by endorsement within 12 months of hire.


PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE: Planning, designing, permitting, contracting and constructing environmental enhancement, shore protection, and/or public use facility projects; working on projects involving South Florida beach nourishment; ensuring permitting compliance with Federal/State/local standards and regulations. Also desirable: Knowledge of coastal processes.
